The Hotel St Nicholas has an excellent website with just about everything you need to know about the hotel and the Cripple Creek area. The hotel building is about 130 years old and operated as a hospital until the 1960s. From the late 1960s to the mid-1970s, it operated as the Hilltop Nursing Home, before being used as a boarding and then left vacant. In 1995, the building was purchase and restored, preserving its historic architecture and legacy while offering modern hospitality.
The current owners purchase the hotel about two years ago and have been working diligently to fine-tune some of the things that the previous owners didn’t complete. Each room is unique with it’s own special decor and amenities. It is a lovely hotel but you should be prepared that it is a boutique hotel with 15 rooms and the owners are still working on a few things. There is no elevator. The second floor is only about four stairs to climb but the third floor is a full set of stairs. The water pressure is low but adequate. I’ve been in Marriotts with the same water pressure.
The tv reception is through Direct TV and didn’t have a lot of choices. I had my iPad and was able to watch my shows on xFinity.
There is no daily room service – but if you need towels or anything, the hotel will get them for you.
The bed when I stayed in June was super comfortable. The mattress was firm and there are lots of comfy pillows on the beds. Both the second and third floors have sitting areas outside of the rooms for just relaxing. The hotel is up on a hill and has great views of the mountains and city. The first floor has the breakfast room (arrival dinner and morning breakfast), the Broiler Room Tavern and the Parlor (birthday dinner). There is also a gift shop and a cozy lobby.
The Continental Breakfast has cereal, bagels, coffee, tea, etc.
Here are your rooms. All rooms combine a balance of charm and practicality/ Most of the showcase mountain or town views, natural light, and Victorian accents.
